The Narratives
of The Indonesian Dancescape

Seri.02:
Zoom In & Zoom Out

DokumenTARI is a product of Sasikirana KoreoLAB & Dance Camp that primarily focuses on increasing the skill in articulating critical thinking of Indonesian dance practitioners. Through this virtual map, we can find pins of stories from our contributors that utilize the methods of photographic essay and life-narratives as an exercise to start questioning their closest circle before leading themselves to study a wider scope of the society.

We are proud to release DokumenTARI Seri.02 that includes the stories of  another nine young dancers (adding to the contributors we had in Seri.01) from different parts of Indonesia who had gone through a three-month-intensive-virtual-workshop with Tarlen Handayani as mentor, and Lulu Lutfi Labibi, Janti Alterjiwo and Astrid Reza as guest facilitators. The theme of “Zoom IN / Zoom OUT” tries to question how the contributors see themselves from different perspectives, diving into their personalities and personal histories as the basic upon looking outwards to the society they live in. During the process, our contributors utilized the classic method of letter-writing to build personal relationships among each other and found various ways to articulate their life-narratives, proving that even in this digitized world, personal relationships still hold an important role in constructing a sense of community, in this case, the Indonesian dance socioscape.
